Marsh to Lead Rested Australia as Test Stars Sit Out England White-Ball Series

Australia have rested most of their frontline Test players for the home one-day international and Twenty20 series against England over the next month, with experienced all-rounder Mitchell Marsh named to captain both squads. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will all skip the visit of England as they prepare for the upcoming World Test Championship series against New Zealand and India. Only Travis Head, Matthew Renshaw, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis and Cooper Connolly from the side that lost a Test series in South Africa will back up in the ODI team, and none of them will play the T20s. Fast bowler Mahli Beardman, 21, returns to international cricket after an injury layoff and is one of six players named in both squads, while Nathan Ellis will miss the ODI leg as he continues his recovery from a side strain picked up against South Africa in September. Chief selector George Bailey pointed to a demanding phase of the schedule, with multi-format players moving straight from the South Africa tour into the England series and only a narrow window to stay fresh for the New Zealand Tests. The ODI series begins in Perth on November 13, with further matches in Adelaide and Hobart, followed by five T20 clashes in Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra. Australia then host New Zealand in four Tests starting on December 9.
