Marlins Pick Up Alcantara's $21M Option to Keep Their Ace

The Miami Marlins have picked up Sandy Alcantara's $21 million club option for 2027, keeping their ace at the top of the rotation rather than paying a $2 million buyout. The decision, confirmed on October 30, was the one positive option call in a wave of declines across the league as the free-agent market took shape.
Alcantara, 31, led the major leagues with 214 innings in 2026 and tied for second with 33 starts, re-establishing himself as one of the game's true workhorses. He will front a rotation also featuring Eury Pérez and Max Meyer as Miami looks to build on its young pitching core.
The move stands in contrast to a busy week of option decisions elsewhere, with several veteran arms hitting the open market. For the Marlins, though, the calculation was simple: a proven innings-eater at the top of the staff was worth keeping, and Alcantara stays in Miami for at least one more season.
