Marchand Sidelined Six Weeks as Panthers' Injury Crisis Deepens

The Florida Panthers' forward ranks took another hit Friday when coach Paul Maurice confirmed that Brad Marchand will be out six weeks after injuring his knee in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings. Marchand was tangled up with Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke before sliding hard into the goal post; he immediately grabbed his knee and needed help off the ice, unable to put weight on the leg. Maurice said the veteran is expected to resume skating in about three weeks, adding, "Nobody said months yet so we're taking weeks." The timing stings. Marchand was only playing his second game of the season after returning ahead of schedule — he had originally been expected to spend all of October rehabbing from offseason surgery. His absence compounds Florida's problems up front: captain Aleksander Barkov is already out six to eight weeks with a lower-body injury after missing the entire 2025-26 season following ACL surgery, and Marchand had been slotted into the lineup when Barkov went on long-term injured reserve. It is also a familiar script for the Panthers, who missed the playoffs last season after three straight trips to the Stanley Cup Final while Marchand missed time with injury.
