Lucas Herbert Quits LIV Golf to Join Hatton and Poulter in DP World Tour Return

The LIV Golf exodus has claimed another of its brightest talents. Australian Lucas Herbert has confirmed he is leaving the breakaway league to play on the DP World Tour in 2027, joining Tyrrell Hatton and Ian Poulter in walking away just days before players must decide whether to commit to the league's proposed new era. Herbert, 30, enjoyed the best season of his LIV career in 2026, winning twice, finishing fourth in the individual standings, and shooting a historic 62 at Royal Birkdale on his way to a tie for sixth at The Open. His departure is a damaging blow to the all-Australian Ripper GC team, whose captain Cameron Smith and teammate Marc Leishman remain undecided on their futures. Herbert's exit follows those of Hatton, Poulter, Branden Grace and Louis Oosthuizen, and comes after LIV filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States following the withdrawal of financial support from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Golf Monthly reported that Herbert currently holds no DP World Tour status despite three wins on the circuit, so he may need to arrange a deal to play there next year.
