Lowry Reunites With McIlroy as Boston Acquires Him in TGL's First-Ever Trade

The indoor golf league TGL has completed its first-ever player trade, and it sends one of Ireland's favourite duos onto the same team. Boston Common Golf announced Monday that it has acquired Shane Lowry from The Bay Golf Club, reuniting the 2019 Open champion with his close friend Rory McIlroy ahead of the league's third season.

In exchange, The Bay receives Boston's fourth-round selection in the 2027 roster formation process, a future selection swap right over the next three offseasons, and additional commercial considerations. The deal lands as TGL expands to five-player rosters for 2027 and adds a seventh franchise, Detroit-based Motor City Golf Club.

Lowry, 39, spent TGL's opening two seasons with The Bay and said he was delighted to link up with McIlroy, with whom he won the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans and helped Europe win the 2023 Ryder Cup and retain it in 2025. He is also coming off a strong year on the DP World Tour, where he captured the Irish Open at Doonbeg in September.

Boston Common's lineup now centres on McIlroy and Lowry alongside Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama from recent seasons, as the franchise chases a championship in the 2027 campaign.
