London Irish Take Major Step Toward Comeback as Gamechanger Completes Brand Acquisition
Gamechanger Investments Ltd has completed the acquisition of London Irish's name, brand and intellectual property, moving the Exiles a step closer to a return to professional rugby three years after administration.

London Irish have moved a significant step closer to a return to professional rugby after Gamechanger Investments Ltd completed the acquisition of the club's name, brand and associated intellectual property. The deal, for an undisclosed fee, secures the future of a club founded in 1898 that collapsed into administration in June 2023 with debts exceeding £30 million, becoming the third Gallagher Premiership side to go bust in an eight-month spell after Worcester Warriors and Wasps. Gamechanger is led by Steve and Sarah Daniels alongside newly appointed chief executive Jamie Balls MBE, and has made clear its ambition to restore one of English rugby's most recognisable names to the professional game. The Times reports the club is targeting a return as early as next season via the Championship before eventually bidding for a Premiership franchise spot, with a team in the women's league also planned. An earlier plan to join the United Rugby Championship was blocked by RFU opposition. A formal relaunch is expected in December 2026 or January 2027, though any comeback still requires approval from the game's governing bodies.
