Lightning Delays India Championship as Chacarra and McKibbin Share Early Lead
Dangerous thunderstorms suspended first-round play at the DP World India Championship for nearly five hours, with Eugenio Chacarra and Tom McKibbin sharing the early lead at five-under, while Rory McIlroy and defending champion Tommy Fleetwood were caught mid-round.

The DP World India Championship's opening day was thrown into chaos as lightning forced a suspension of nearly five hours at Delhi Golf Club on Thursday. Play was halted at 11:04am local time amid thunder, lightning, high winds and heavy rain, and did not resume until 4pm, leaving a logjam at the top of the leaderboard.
When the stoppage came, Spain's Eugenio Chacarra and Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin shared the lead at five-under, with Chacarra through 16 holes after capitalising on soft morning conditions. Chacarra, a two-time winner this season, opened with four birdies in six holes and sits second in the Race to Dubai standings behind Patrick Reed.
Robert MacIntyre lurked a shot back at four-under through 14, while defending champion Tommy Fleetwood was three-under through 14 in the marquee morning group alongside Rory McIlroy and MacIntyre. McIlroy, chasing a record-equalling eighth Race to Dubai title, was two-under through 14 at the time of the delay. The group had teed off at 7:15am local time.
The $4 million event is the penultimate stop before the DP World Tour Play-Offs, with the top players battling for crucial Race to Dubai points ahead of the Genesis Championship in South Korea next week and the season-ending events in the United Arab Emirates.
