Leicester Tigers have bolstered their front row with the immediate signing of Samoan international Richie Asiata for the 2026-27 season. The 30-year-old hooker arrives in the East Midlands after a stint with Tasman in New Zealand's NPC, following spells with the Queensland Reds and Benetton.

Asiata has two Test caps for Samoa after debuting in July's World Rugby Nations Cup and was recently included in the Manu Samoa extended squad for the November Tests. He brings more than 50 Super Rugby caps to a position of need at Welford Road.

Head coach Geoff Parling praised the signing, noting Asiata's top-level experience and hunger to prove himself in the PREM. The Samoan said he is excited by the new challenge after playing in Australia for much of his career, citing conversations with James O'Connor, Ben Volavola and Izaia Perese about the club's history and supporters.

Asiata, who joined with his family Leilani and Lior, could go straight into contention as Leicester manage their front-row rotation through the PREM campaign. The signing continues a busy transfer window for the Tigers as they reshape their pack for the new season.
