Leicester Hooker Finn Theobald-Thomas Forced to Retire at 23 on Medical Grounds
Leicester Tigers hooker Finn Theobald-Thomas has retired from professional rugby with immediate effect at 23 on medical grounds, the club announced, ending a career that included 33 Tigers appearances and 12 England Under-20 caps.

Leicester Tigers hooker Finn Theobald-Thomas has been forced to retire from professional rugby at just 23 on medical grounds, the club announced on Wednesday. The front-rower, who made 33 appearances for the Tigers, steps away with immediate effect after medical advice ended a career that had only just begun to flourish. Tigers head coach Geoff Parling said he was gutted by the news, describing Theobald-Thomas as a loveable and unselfish character who will always remain part of the team. The 23-year-old had made 16 appearances this season, including a 31-minute outing off the bench as Leicester lifted the Prem Rugby Cup in March. Theobald-Thomas came through the Worcester Warriors pathway, making three senior appearances before the club's collapse in 2022 forced him to move on. A brief spell at Gloucester followed before he joined Leicester, where he also spent time on loan at Championship side Nottingham last season. An England age-grade international, he won 12 caps for the under-20s and helped his country to fourth place at the 2023 World Rugby U20 Championship in South Africa. His retirement is a cruel ending for a young player whose best years appeared to lie ahead, and a reminder of how fragile sporting careers can be.
