Lehkonen Scores Twice and Makar Adds Four Assists as Avalanche Rout Flames 5-2

The Colorado Avalanche turned a tight Halloween night at Ball Arena into a comfortable win, beating the Calgary Flames 5-2 behind two goals from Artturi Lehkonen and a four-assist night from Cale Makar. Nathan MacKinnon opened the scoring late in the first period, his ninth goal of the season, and Mackenzie Blackwood preserved the lead with a sprawling glove save on Matt Coronato with 8.5 seconds left in the frame. Colorado then blew the game open with three goals in the first ten minutes of the second period: Martin Necas scored on the power play at 2:37, Lehkonen made it 3-0 at 5:48, and Brock Nelson capped the burst at 9:07, batting an airborne puck out of the air for his fourth of the season. Calgary, playing its third game in four nights, finally broke through when Joel Farabee scored at 10:50 of the second, and Martin Pospisil made it 4-2 early in the third, but Lehkonen restored the three-goal cushion at 4:09 with a deflection of Makar's point shot, his 12th goal in 14 games. Makar finished with four assists, Devon Toews added two, and Blackwood stopped 25 shots, while Arsenii Sergeev made 29 saves in just his second career start for the Flames. Calgary settled for a weekend split, while Colorado's balanced attack made it a happy Halloween for the home crowd.
