Late Three-Goal Burst Keeps Minnesota's Playoff Dream Alive in 3-1 Comeback Over Kansas City
Minnesota United scored three times in the final 20 minutes to overturn a 1-0 deficit and beat Sporting Kansas City 3-1 at Allianz Field, keeping their MLS playoff hopes alive.

Minnesota United looked to be heading for a damaging result when Taylor Calheira put Sporting Kansas City ahead in the 31st minute, finishing low into the bottom-left corner after picking up a deflected pass at the edge of the box. The visitors nearly doubled their advantage in the 64th minute, only for Andre Luiz's effort from the top of the area to strike the post. The match turned in the final 20 minutes. Anthony Markanich headed home a Joaquin Pereyra corner in the 72nd minute to level the score, his ninth goal of the season. Four minutes later Mauricio Gonzalez collected a pass from Nectarios Triantis in the middle of the box, shifted the ball to his left and drilled a left-footed finish into the bottom-right corner for his third goal of the campaign. Kelvin Yeboah sealed the win in the 88th minute, converting from the edge of the six-yard box off a Tomas Chancalay assist for his team-leading 18th goal of the season — and, per the club, his 40th across all competitions, a Minnesota United record. Drake Callender made two saves for the hosts, who improved to 9-12-11 and stayed unbeaten in five matches. Kansas City, now 6-22-4, lost a fourth straight game, and the 79 goals they have conceded this season broke the MLS single-season record of 78 set by San Jose in 2024. Minnesota now travel to Los Angeles FC on Sunday with their postseason fate still in their own hands.
