Kostecki and Hazelwood win dramatic Bathurst 1000 with last-lap pass

Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood have won a dramatic 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama, sealing the triumph for the Dick Johnson Racing Ford Mustang with a breathtaking last-lap pass on Sunday. The No. 17 Mustang crossed the line just 1.1844 seconds clear of the Triple Eight Ford of Will Brown and Scott Pye after a race-long duel at the front came down to the 161st and final lap. Matt Stone Racing's Chevrolet pairing of Zach Bates and Aaron Seton completed the podium, 1.93 seconds back, capping a fine weekend after Bates stormed to pole with a 2:04.2062 shootout lap. Jack Le Brocq and Harri Jones brought the second MSR Camaro home fourth, a result that booked the squad its maiden berth in the Supercars finals. Defending race winner Matt Payne could manage only fifth alongside Will Davison. The 1000-kilometre enduro, run in fine but hot conditions, featured 26 cars across Ford, Chevrolet and Toyota — the Japanese brand's first Bathurst 1000 appearance in the Supercars era. The race also locked in the ten finals contenders: Payne, Broc Feeney, Kai Allen, Kostecki, Cam Waters, Anton De Pasquale, Brown, Chaz Mostert, Ryan Wood and Le Brocq. For Kostecki and Hazelwood, the victory was redemption after past near-misses at the Mountain, delivered in the most dramatic fashion possible with the Great Race decided at the very last corner.
