Kochetkov Makes History as Hurricanes Blank Jets 7-0

Pyotr Kochetkov wrote his name into NHL history on Sunday as the Carolina Hurricanes thrashed the Winnipeg Jets 7-0 at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh. Kochetkov stopped all 26 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season, winning his 10th consecutive game to open the campaign. Only Jack Campbell, who won 11 straight to start 2020-21, and Carey Price, who won 10 to start 2016-17, had previously won each of their first 10 games of a season. Carolina was ruthless in front of him. Sean Walker scored twice, Logan Stankoven had a goal and two assists, and Sebastian Aho added a goal and an assist as the Hurricanes scored four times in the second period to blow the game open. Seth Jarvis, Nikolaj Ehlers and Shayne Gostisbehere each recorded two assists, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi completed the scoring late in the third. Winnipeg's afternoon unravelled early. Stuart Skinner was pulled early in the second period after allowing five goals, the second straight game in which he has been removed. The Jets have now gone 0-7-2 across their last nine games, while Carolina has won four straight and 12 of its last 14.
