West Indies took a 1-0 lead in their two-match Test series against Bangladesh with an eight-wicket victory on day four at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday. Chasing 170, the visitors got home in 35.1 overs thanks to opener Brandon King, who finished unbeaten on 81 from 115 balls.

King and John Campbell, who made 49 from 55 balls, put on 112 for the first wicket to break the back of the chase, and Kavem Hodge added an unbeaten 31 from 27 balls to finish the job. Earlier, Bangladesh had resumed their second innings on 79 for 6 and were bowled out for 142, with Nayeem Hasan top-scoring with 52 and Roston Chase taking five wickets for 36 runs.

The result shuffled the World Test Championship standings, with Bangladesh slipping to fifth on 47.62 percent of points and India moving up to fourth, while West Indies remain eighth despite the win. The teams now head to Sylhet for the second and final Test, starting on November 5.
