Kim and Campbell Penalised After Hitting Each Other's Ball From Same Bunker

The VidantaWorld Mexico Open produced one of the season's strangest rules incidents on Friday, when Tom Kim and defending champion Brian Campbell each hit the wrong ball from the same bunker. Playing together for a second straight day, both men found the same sand trap on the 18th hole at Vidanta Vallarta — and each proceeded to play the other's ball. Under the Rules of Golf, each player received a two-stroke penalty in stroke play and had to correct the mistake by playing his own ball. Kim's six at the last gave him a 3-under 68 and a 7-under total, while Campbell also signed for a 68 and the same total after a six at the 17th and another at the last. The blunder will not be fatal to either man's week: both sit well clear of the projected cut at 3 under. Kim is playing for the first time since winning gold at the Asian Games, which exempted him from military service in Korea, while Campbell is back for the first time since the Wyndham Championship in August.
