Kihei Akina Halfway to PGA Tour Card After Utah Top-10
BYU sophomore Kihei Akina earned his second Accelerated point of the Korn Ferry Tour season with a solo ninth at the Bank of Utah Championship, reaching the halfway mark toward a PGA Tour card.

Kihei Akina's road to the PGA Tour is halfway paved. The BYU sophomore finished solo ninth at the Bank of Utah Championship on Sunday, earning his second point in the PGA Tour University Accelerated program and reaching 10 of the 20 points needed to secure a tour card.
Akina, the Phil Mickelson Award winner as the nation's top freshman, has been the most productive college player in the country this season. The Accelerated program rewards sustained excellence against professional fields, and the 20-year-old is now the clear front-runner to claim the card that would make him an instant PGA Tour member.
His Utah performance also earned him a sponsor's exemption into the Bermuda Championship, October 22–25, where he will get another crack at PGA Tour-level competition. A strong showing there could accelerate the timeline further.
With half the points banked and the spring college season still ahead, Akina needs just 10 more to join the professional ranks. If he keeps playing like this, the wait won't be long — the tour card is no longer a dream but a matter of when.
