Jillaroos Smash World Record With 124-6 Thrashing of Wales

Australia's Jillaroos have rewritten the rugby league record books, crushing Wales 124-6 at CommBank Stadium in Sydney in the biggest victory ever recorded in an international match. The defending champions ran in 21 tries to storm into the Women's World Cup semi-finals, surpassing the previous world mark in breathtaking fashion. The scale of the win was clear by halftime. Australia led 60-0 at the break, the largest halftime margin in any World Cup match, men's or women's, and they never eased off after the restart. Winger Jaime Chapman scored six tries, equalling the Jillaroos' individual record, while Jess Sergis crossed four times. Halfback Tarryn Aiken's kicking game and the playmaking of the spine kept Wales pinned in their own half all afternoon, and Jesse Southwell landed 20 goals in a near-flawless display from the tee. The final total passed Denmark's men, who beat Sweden 122-8 in 2012, and smashed the previous women's international record, France's 116-0 win over Serbia in 2023. It also went well beyond Australia's previous best at a Women's World Cup, a 92-0 win over France in 2022. Wales, playing in their first World Cup and appearing in just their 16th Test, did have a moment to celebrate: trailing 100-0, Paige Travis won the race to a Tayla Preston grubber late in the second half to become the first player to score against Australia all tournament. The Jillaroos will now face Fiji in next Sunday's semi-final at Allianz Stadium.
