Jets Corner Wright Says He Has Not Formally Asked for a Trade

New York Jets cornerback Nahshon Wright has addressed the trade speculation surrounding him, confirming that he has not formally asked to leave the club. Speaking to ESPN's Rich Cimini, the 28-year-old answered "not formally" when asked whether he had submitted a request, while making clear he had told the team how he feels and believes he has earned that right. Wright joined the Jets this offseason after intercepting five passes for the Chicago Bears last season, but he has yet to play a single snap on defence in 2026. A training-camp injury cost him time early on, and he has been unable to carve out a consistent role since. His frustration is understandable: he is in the fifth season of his NFL career, signed only a one-year deal in the spring, and faces another round of free agency ahead. Playing time, he said, is what matters most to him right now, whether that comes in New York or elsewhere, and he believes last season showed what he can contribute. The Jets sit at 2-5 as the trade deadline approaches and return to action on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8. Their defence has actually been a strength, allowing the ninth-fewest yards per game and the fifth-fewest passing yards, which makes Wright's path to snaps even tougher.
