Jason Kidd may be swapping the clipboard for the broadcast desk. The former Dallas Mavericks coach is in advanced talks with ESPN to become an NBA studio analyst, according to reports from Marc Stein of The Stein Line and The Athletic on Monday.

Kidd, 53, would join the "NBA Countdown" team currently featuring Brian Windhorst and Kendrick Perkins, hosted by Malika Andrews. ESPN has had an opening in its studio rotation since Michael Malone departed in April to coach college basketball at North Carolina.

The move would mark a new chapter for one of the most decorated figures in the game. Kidd was the 1994-95 Rookie of the Year, a 10-time All-Star, and won the 2011 NBA championship with Dallas as a player. He coached the Mavericks for five seasons, guiding them to the 2024 NBA Finals, before parting ways with the franchise in May shortly after Masai Ujiri arrived as president of basketball operations.

Twice inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame — as a player in 2018 and with Team USA's 2008 Olympic squad in 2025 — Kidd brings instant credibility to the desk. ESPN declined to comment when approached, but an announcement appears close.
