Jarvis Fires Opening 65 to Lead Genesis Championship and Keep Race to Dubai Dream Alive

Casey Jarvis gave his Race to Dubai title hopes a huge lift on Thursday, opening the Genesis Championship with a sparkling six-under-par 65 to seize a one-shot lead at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, South Korea. The 23-year-old South African, a two-time winner this season, closed his round with a birdie at the last to edge clear of home favourite Sanghun Shin on the first day of the final regular event of the DP World Tour season. It was a round built on sharp iron play and a hot putter, with three straight birdies from the third hole and a 32-footer at the 12th from the rough among the highlights. Jarvis sits fourth on the Race to Dubai standings, but he is projected to leapfrog Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed and enter the DP World Tour Play-Offs second behind leader Eugenio Chacarra. Chacarra, the only one of the top three in the field this week, managed only a 72 to sit tied 53rd, leaving the door open. The stakes were just as high further down the board. With only the top 100 on the rankings keeping a near-full schedule for 2027, Sweden's Niklas Lemke — 140th in the standings — fought back from an early double bogey to post 68 and sits projected just outside the cut-off in 102nd. Ryygs Johnston, whose playing status expires at the end of this event, needs at least second place and began well with a three-under 69. Jarvis, meanwhile, credited a mid-season swing change and a new putting coach for his resurgence after what he called "a bit of a dip."
