Jangoo's Unbeaten Century Lifts West Indies to 235/4 on Day One in Sylhet

Amir Jangoo hit a superb unbeaten century as West Indies fought back from a dreadful start to reach 235 for 4 at stumps on day one of the second Test against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The visitors, who lead the two-match series 1-0, won the toss and chose to bat, but were in deep trouble inside nine overs. Taskin Ahmed removed Brandon King for nine with a swinging delivery that rattled the stumps, and Hasan Mahmud cleaned up Kavem Hodge for one before Taskin trapped Joshua Da Silva leg before for 12 to leave West Indies reeling at 27 for 3. Jangoo and debutant Kevin Wickham then rebuilt the innings with a patient 131-run stand for the fourth wicket. Wickham, playing his first Test after three consecutive domestic centuries, made 61 from 145 balls before Hasan Mahmud removed him just before tea. Jangoo carried on untroubled, reaching his hundred from 149 balls and finishing the day on 111 not out from 171 deliveries, with 11 fours and two sixes. Justin Greaves was unbeaten on 35 at the close as West Indies, who had been 180 for 4 at tea, ended the day firmly in control. Bangladesh, beaten by eight wickets in the first Test in Mirpur, now face a long fight to level the series, with Jangoo well set and the pitch offering less movement than it did in the opening session.
