Injury-Hit Thunder Turn to Agbaji to Fill Final Roster Spot

The Oklahoma City Thunder have moved to patch a battered roster, signing free-agent wing Ochai Agbaji to fill their open 15th roster spot. The deal was reported on Friday by ESPN's Shams Charania, with HoopsHype's Michael Scotto first flagging the plan, and it comes at a moment when Oklahoma City's wing depth has been shredded by injury. Starters Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace both suffered serious injuries in Sunday's win over the LA Clippers. Williams sustained a fractured left fibula and dislocated left ankle, while Wallace tore the labrum in his left shoulder. Both required surgery and face months on the sidelines, though the club has not ruled either out for the season. Nikola Topic and Thomas Sorber were already unavailable after surgeries, and Chet Holmgren and Alex Caruso have also missed games. Agbaji, 26, was the 14th pick in the 2022 draft out of Kansas and has averaged 7.2 points over four NBA seasons with Utah, Toronto and Brooklyn. Waived by New York on October 15 after a training-camp stint, he is expected to sign a minimum deal that stays non-guaranteed until the league-wide guarantee date of January 10. The 4-1 Thunder face the undefeated Houston Rockets on Saturday, and Agbaji could be thrown straight into the rotation.
