Hurricanes Win Fifth Straight as Flyers Sink to Franchise-Record Winless Start

The Carolina Hurricanes kept rolling on Sunday night, beating the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena to extend their winning streak to five games and move top of the NHL on 11 points. After a scoreless first period, Andrei Svechnikov broke the deadlock midway through the second with a snipe off the rush, and Shayne Gostisbehere doubled the lead against his former club less than four minutes later. Christian Dvorak briefly gave the desperate hosts hope, but Sebastian Aho needed only 88 seconds to restore the two-goal cushion, and Mark Jankowski's late strike — his fourth goal in four games — closed out a comfortable win. Pyotr Kochetkov made 18 saves to improve to 3-0-0 on the season. For Philadelphia, the misery deepened into history. At 0-5-2, the Flyers have now gone seven games without a win to open a season for the first time in franchise history, and they have been outscored 28-8 during the disastrous run. Joseph Woll made 26 saves but could not stem the tide as Carolina made it five straight wins since dropping their first two games of the campaign. The Hurricanes are off on Monday before returning home to face Washington on Tuesday night.
