Hintz's Overtime Double Sinks Jets 3-2 as Winnipeg's Skid Hits Four

Roope Hintz scored twice, including the overtime winner, as the Dallas Stars edged the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Thursday night to extend the visitors' losing streak to four games.

Hintz first tied the contest in the third period before finishing it off in overtime, capping a night when Dallas's elite defense once again did the heavy lifting. The Stars entered the game having allowed two or fewer goals in eight of their first nine outings, and they held Winnipeg — a side that had managed only six goals over its previous three games — to just two more.

Wyatt Johnston opened the scoring for Dallas and added an assist for a multi-point night. For Winnipeg, Gabe Vilardi finally broke through with his first goal of the season, and Kyle Connor added another minutes later to briefly put the Jets 2-1 up in the second period. But the lead did not survive the third.

Goaltending told two stories. Dallas's Jake Oettinger made 17 saves on 19 shots for his fifth win of the season, continuing his Vezina-caliber start. At the other end, Stuart Skinner was outstanding, stopping 35 of 38 shots, but the latest stellar outing from Winnipeg's netminder went unrewarded.

It was a quiet night for Winnipeg's top names — Mark Scheifele, Cole Perfetti and season debutant Brayden Yager all went pointless. The Jets now look to Sunday's Heritage Classic to end the slide.
