Hemp's Late Winner Sends Man City Top in WSL Thriller Against London City Lionesses
Lauren Hemp struck the winner minutes after London City Lionesses had equalised, as Manchester City won a top-of-the-table Women's Super League clash 2-1 on Sunday to move top of the league.

Manchester City climbed to the top of the Women's Super League on Sunday after Lauren Hemp's late strike secured a 2-1 win away to London City Lionesses in a meeting of the division's leading sides. City had taken the lead when Khadija Shaw rounded goalkeeper Mary Earps and fired high into the net, only for the hosts to hit back in the 72nd minute through Jana Fernandez, whose glancing header from a corner levelled the score. The parity lasted barely two minutes. Fernandez allowed Hemp to steal past her and meet a cross from Mary Fowler, stabbing home the winner and silencing the home crowd. The victory lifted City to 22 points from eight matches, moving them past Chelsea at the summit, although Chelsea were due to play bottom side Charlton Athletic later on Sunday and could reclaim first place. The defeat left London City third, six points behind City. In the day's other early kick-off, Arsenal's underwhelming start continued as they were held 1-1 at home by Aston Villa, with Alessia Russo scoring a late equaliser to rescue a point.
