Hearn Laughs Off Tsarukyan Signing Talk: "Just Some Breakfast"
Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn has denied signing UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan after a photo of the pair together sparked speculation, insisting their meeting was nothing more than a chance breakfast in the same London hotel.

A photograph, a hotel breakfast, and a week of speculation — Eddie Hearn has moved to shut the whole thing down. The Matchroom Boxing chief has denied signing UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan to any kind of deal, insisting that a picture of the two men together last week showed nothing more than two people who happened to be staying in the same London hotel.
"Everyone went crazy for this," Hearn wrote on Instagram. "We were just staying in the same hotel randomly and arranged to have some breakfast together."
It is easy to see why the photograph set tongues wagging. Hearn has spent the past year carving out an unusual role for himself on the edge of mixed martial arts, helping UFC fighters in his stable secure sponsorships and media attention outside the octagon. Tom Aspinall, Ian Machado Garry and Paulo Costa are all among the fighters he works with, and when Garry linked up with Hearn the deal was kept quiet until the UFC announced Garry against Makhachev. So when a picture appeared of Hearn sharing a table with Tsarukyan, the lightweight division's long-waiting No. 1 contender, plenty of people put two and two together.
The timing only fed the rumours. UFC chief executive Dana White had just suggested he would not be against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski jumping the lightweight title line and fighting Justin Gaethje, a move that would leave Tsarukyan waiting longer still for the crack at the belt he believes he has earned. Against that backdrop, a meeting with boxing's most prominent promoter looked, to some, like a fighter exploring his options.
Hearn, though, was happy to pour cold water on it. He made no effort to hide the breakfast itself, and his version of events is deliberately mundane: a chance encounter, a shared hotel, a meal. There is no contract, no handshake deal, no announcement to come. Whether the speculation itself, or even the innocent breakfast, affects Tsarukyan's chances of getting the next title shot remains to be seen — but for now the only thing on the table was food.
The episode says something about where the sport sits at the moment. Fighters are looking beyond the UFC for leverage, promoters from boxing are circling, and every photograph of a contender with a power broker gets read like a transfer rumour. Tsarukyan is still waiting to learn whether he gets another crack at the belt or whether Volkanovski cuts the line. Until the UFC says otherwise, that is the only queue that matters, and no amount of breakfast chatter will move him up it.
