Gumberg Reaches 100th DP World Tour Start With Play-Off Debut in Abu Dhabi

Jordan Gumberg's first 99 starts on the DP World Tour have been, by his own reflection, largely about finding somewhere to play and staying there. This week at Yas Links, the American reaches a double milestone: his 100th appearance on the tour coincides with his debut in its play-offs at the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship. The 31-year-old's journey has been a roller coaster over three years. He won on an invitation in just his 14th appearance, holed out for eagle on the 72nd hole of his 69th start to keep his card, and claimed a second triumph in his 78th appearance at the Hainan Classic. Since that win in China he has made only five of 21 cuts, with 35 weekends played in his 99 starts in total. The stakes in Abu Dhabi are real: two strong weeks could carry him into next week's DP World Tour Championship as one of the top 50 available players on the Race to Dubai rankings, and even open a route to one of ten dual memberships with the PGA Tour. Gumberg says he feels lucky simply to have a tee time this week — and that anything can happen from there.
