Glasgow Go Top as URC's Only Unbeaten Side After Late Win Over Lions

There are new leaders in the United Rugby Championship, and they are the only team in the league yet to lose. Glasgow Warriors went top on Friday night with a 29-20 bonus-point win over the Lions at Scotstoun, sealed by full-back Ollie Smith's try in the 76th minute, with George Horne's late penalty denying the visitors even a losing bonus point. It was the second round in a row that Glasgow left it late: last weekend they snatched victory away to Benetton with a 78th-minute score. The win takes Glasgow to 23 points and keeps them clear at the summit as the league pauses for the November international break. Previous frontrunners Edinburgh saw their perfect start ended in a 31-12 defeat at Benetton in Treviso, dropping the capital side to fifth. Immediately below Glasgow sit three South African teams — the Bulls and Stormers on 21 points, with the Sharks fourth on 19 after their win at Munster — while the Lions slipped to 13th. When the competition resumes in December, Glasgow will carry the tag of the team everyone else is chasing.
