Gauthier Stays Red-Hot as Ducks Edge Oilers 5-4 Despite McDavid's Four Points

Cutter Gauthier stayed red-hot and the Anaheim Ducks held off the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 on Thursday night at Rogers Place, winning a third straight game for the first time this season. Gauthier opened the scoring on the power play midway through the first period, his ninth goal in the past four games and his seventh on the man advantage in that span, and he added an assist. Pavel Mintyukov and Beckett Sennecke each scored twice and added an assist, Leo Carlsson set up two goals, and Laurent Brossoit made 23 saves in his third straight start in net. Anaheim's power play did the damage, going 12-for-19 over the past four games. Sennecke's second goal of the night, on the power play early in the third period, made it 5-2 and looked like the clincher. Edmonton refused to fold. Connor McDavid scored a short-handed goal and added three assists to stretch his season-opening point streak to 17 games, with 10 goals and 34 assists in that run. Kasperi Kapanen and Leon Draisaitl scored in the final minutes, the latter with the goalie pulled and 45 seconds left, but the Oilers ran out of time. The Ducks improved with the win, while Edmonton saw a five-game point streak end despite McDavid's latest huge night.
