Garcia Quits LIV Golf and Heads Home to the DP World Tour With Ryder Cup in Sight

Sergio Garcia has brought his LIV Golf chapter to a close. The 46-year-old Spaniard announced on Thursday that he will play on the DP World Tour next season, ending a stint that began when he joined the breakaway league in June 2022 and captained its Fireballs team. Garcia said the European circuit had been part of his career from the very beginning and that he was proud to call it home again, while also keeping his options open for a return to the PGA Tour. He won twice on LIV, in Spain in 2024 and Hong Kong in 2025, but his departure follows a turbulent autumn for the league: LIV filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September, and Garcia had asked a federal judge to end his contract. He now joins a growing list of departures that includes Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Ian Poulter and Louis Oosthuizen as the league attempts to relaunch under a new business plan. The bigger prizes are clear. Europe hosts the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland, and Garcia — a veteran of 10 Ryder Cups with a 25-13-7 record, but not selected since 2021 — wants back in the conversation. He also spoke of making amends at Augusta, where he damaged a tee box and smashed a driver at last year's Masters, saying he left disappointed in himself and is ready to show what he has learned. "In golf, everything is earned and nothing is given," he wrote. "Let's get to work."
