FIA Confirms Two Straight-Mode Zones for Interlagos as Mercedes Near Constructors' Crown

Formula 1's governing body has settled the overtaking layout for this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix, confirming two straight-mode zones at Interlagos. Under the 2026 rules, active aerodynamics have partly replaced the former DRS system, and the FIA says the first zone will sit on the start-finish straight, with the second on the straight between Turns 3 and 4. The detection point for overtake mode will be on the exit of Turn 12, with activation after the left-hand kink of Turn 13. The announcement comes with the championship picture taking shape: Mercedes head to São Paulo on the brink of winning the constructors' championship for the first time since 2021, holding a 126-point advantage. They will be crowned champions if they outscore main rivals Ferrari by three points or more at Interlagos. With only four races remaining on the calendar, the Brazilian weekend could therefore settle one of the season's biggest prizes. Interlagos has a long history of dramatic races, and the straight-mode layout will shape how closely drivers can follow through the circuit's famous final sector and onto the long climb to the finish line.
