Doughty Leads Kings Past Rangers 6-3 to Snap Home Winning Streak

Drew Doughty collected a goal and two assists on Monday as the Los Angeles Kings scored three times in the first period and earned a 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The result snapped New York's season-opening six-game home winning streak and gave Los Angeles a third win in four games. The Kings wasted no time. Taylor Ward scored just 75 seconds into his season debut, splitting the Rangers defence on a breakaway to open the scoring, and Brandt Clarke doubled the lead minutes later as Los Angeles scored on their first two shots against new Rangers goalie James Reimer. Doughty then added his first goal in 25 regular-season games to complete a stunning opening burst. Former Ranger Artemi Panarin had the secondary assist on Doughty's goal before scoring a power-play goal of his own early in the second period, but Los Angeles never surrendered control. Mikey Anderson also scored in the second period, and Joel Edmundson sealed the win with an empty-net goal as 12 Kings players recorded a point. Reimer's debut for his ninth team ended quickly after he allowed three goals on eight shots, tying the NHL record for the most teams played for by a goalie. Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves for Los Angeles. The Rangers, who have now allowed 18 goals during a three-game skid, fell to 1-4-1 in their last six games.
