Djokovic Faces Tough Paris Draw in Last Push for ATP Finals Spot
Novak Djokovic must reach the Paris Masters semi-finals to stay in contention for the ATP Finals after being handed a difficult draw in the final qualifying event.

Novak Djokovic faces a demanding route to the season-ending ATP Finals after the draw for the Paris Masters handed him one of the toughest paths in the field. The 24-time Grand Slam champion, who currently sits 11th in the race to Turin, needs at least a semi-final run at the final Masters event of the year to stay in contention for the eight-man showpiece, which he has won seven times. Djokovic, whose bid suffered a setback with a round-of-16 defeat to Jan-Lennard Struff at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, opens in Paris against Valentin Vacherot, a player he has yet to beat on the ATP Tour after losing their only previous meeting at the Shanghai Masters. Should he get through that test, Luciano Darderi would likely await in the second round, with Alex de Minaur a probable third-round opponent. The most daunting hurdle would come in the quarter-finals, where new world No. 1 Alexander Zverev would stand between Djokovic and the semi-final he needs. The Paris Masters runs from November 2 to 8, with the ATP Finals following in Turin from November 15 to 22, leaving Djokovic with little margin for error in a hectic end to the season.
