Defending Champions South Africa Crush West Indies by 97 Runs in WCL

Defending champions South Africa laid down an early marker in the World Championship of Legends, demolishing the West Indies by 97 runs in Sharjah on Sunday.

South Africa piled up a mammoth 242 for 5 from their 20 overs, powered by a breathtaking opening assault. Richard Levi blasted 87 off just 39 deliveries, while AB de Villiers — rolling back the years with a trademark exhibition of 360-degree strokeplay — struck 70 off 39 balls.

Faced with the tournament's biggest target so far, the West Indies folded for 145 all out in 18.2 overs, unable to cope with the scoreboard pressure or South Africa's disciplined attack.

The 97-run margin was the biggest of the tournament's opening weekend and a statement of intent from the side that lifted the 2025 edition. With bat and ball they looked a cut above the rest of the field.

The West Indies, boasting their own array of Caribbean legends, were simply outgunned on the day. They will need a rapid response in their next fixture if they are to mount a serious challenge in WCL Season 3, which continues across Sharjah and Dubai.
