Anthony Davis gave Washington exactly what it had waited a full year to see. The star big man scored 34 points with 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals in his debut for the Wizards, leading his new team to a 128-116 win over the Milwaukee Bucks in Wednesday's season opener for both sides.

Davis never played for Washington last season after arriving injured, but he wasted no time announcing himself, earning "MVP" chants from the home crowd before the first quarter was even over. Still, the Wizards trailed for much of the night after missing 18 of their first 22 three-point attempts, and it took a dominant second half to turn it around.

Washington took control early in the fourth when a Deandre Ayton dunk capped the comeback, and a 21-4 run pushed the lead to 111-98 with 7:26 remaining. The Wizards shot 63 percent from the field after halftime, outscoring Milwaukee 77-60.

Trae Young added 20 points and 13 assists in his own first game alongside Davis, while top draft pick AJ Dybantsa sat out with an ankle injury. Tyler Herro scored 24 and Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 22 for Milwaukee, whose new era without Giannis Antetokounmpo began under first-time Bucks coach Taylor Jenkins. The Bucks host Chicago on Friday; Washington hosts Toronto.
