Darnold Ruled Out for Cardinals Trip as Seahawks Face Quarterback Call
Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold has been ruled out of Sunday's game against Arizona after suffering a quadriceps injury and a cracked rib against Chicago, leaving head coach Mike Macdonald to name a replacement starter.

The Seattle Seahawks will be without starting quarterback Sam Darnold when they visit the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, after the veteran was ruled out with injuries picked up in Monday night's game against Chicago. Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed on Wednesday that Darnold will not play, closing the door on any late-week hope of a quick recovery. Darnold's night against the Bears was painful from the start. He suffered a cracked rib on just the second offensive play of the game, then hurt his quadriceps late in the contest. He still finished the game, but the combination of injuries has left Seattle with no choice but to turn elsewhere for the trip to Arizona. The replacement picture is far from settled. Drew Lock, who stepped in against the Cardinals in Week 2 when Darnold was hurt earlier in the season, has been limited in practice for the past two weeks with an elbow problem and was the inactive emergency quarterback for the last two games. Jalen Milroe served as the backup on Monday night, giving Macdonald two very different options to weigh before Sunday. Seattle opened its practice week with a walkthrough on Wednesday, so the first injury report carried estimated designations. Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed sat out with a knee issue, while defensive tackle Leonard Williams missed the session with a stinger, adding to the Seahawks' concerns on both sides of the ball.
