Daly II Makes First Professional PGA Tour Start at Mexico Open

John Daly II is making his first PGA Tour start as a professional at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open, which began on Thursday at Vidanta Vallarta. Daly II's round-one tee time was 10:44 a.m. ET from the first tee, as the son of the two-time major champion takes the next step in his own career on one of golf's biggest stages. It is Daly II's second PGA Tour start overall; he made the cut in his first, at the Puerto Rico Open in March, but this week marks his debut in the paid ranks. The full PGA Tour field is contending for a $6 million purse south of the border, with Golf Channel airing round one from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET and streaming its coverage online and in its app. Wyndham Clark entered the week as the pretournament favourite, teeing off at 2:18 p.m. ET from the first tee, while Max Homa started at 9:38 a.m. ET from the 10th. Brian Campbell is also in the field looking to defend his crown at an event that has become a fixture of the PGA Tour's early-season schedule. For Daly II, though, the week is about something simpler: proving he belongs at this level, in his own right, and not just as a famous name on the tee sheet.
