Cade Cunningham produced a season-high 33 points as the Detroit Pistons blew out the Charlotte Hornets 124-91 on Monday night in Charlotte. The win improved Detroit to 6-1 and closed a two-game road trip in emphatic fashion, with the Pistons now tied in the loss column for the Eastern Conference's best record just two weeks into the season. They have done it without Jalen Duren, who missed a fifth straight game with a right hamstring strain, and Isaiah Joe, out for a fourth straight game with a right hip contusion. The game turned decisively in the third quarter. With 4:48 remaining in the period, Detroit led by only four points. What followed was a 27-2 run, powered by Cunningham and red-hot shooting across the roster. Cunningham scored 17 points in the quarter, scoring or assisting on 11 of the team's 13 baskets in the period, and Detroit closed the third on a 19-0 run to lead 98-75. Charlotte was held scoreless from the 4:48 mark of the third until well into the fourth. It was Detroit's finest offensive performance of the season: 57.3 per cent shooting overall, 18 of 37 from three-point range, and 37 points scored off 25 Hornets turnovers. Duncan Robinson added 24 points, Ausar Thompson had 14, and Brandon Miller led Charlotte with 17. Cunningham finished with seven assists, five rebounds and five steals in a complete performance.
