Crocombe Pens Two-Year England Deal Before Debut as Bashir and Pope Contracts Renewed

England have announced their central contracts for 2026-27, with uncapped seamer Henry Crocombe earning a two-year deal before he has even played international cricket — the first England player to sign a multi-year agreement ahead of his debut. Crocombe, who could make his bow during this month's ODI tri-series in Pakistan, shot to wider attention this season by taking back-to-back County Championship hat-tricks for Sussex against Somerset and Essex, finishing with 40 wickets at 23.52. The Surrey-bound quick signed until September 30, 2028, alongside Jordan Cox, who has become an important figure across formats. Shoaib Bashir and Ollie Pope are among those with deals renewed, while Ollie Robinson, Emilio Gay, Dan Lawrence, Tom Banton, Sam Cook and Matthew Fisher come into the contracted group. Zak Crawley and Luke Wood drop out, with Ben Stokes and Mark Wood retiring and Tom Lawes moving to a developmental deal. Eleven players are now contracted through to autumn 2028, including Test captain Joe Root, white-ball skipper Harry Brook, and seamers Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue. Jacob Bethell, Sam Curran, Will Jacks and Sonny Baker — the Hampshire quick upgraded after a strong summer — also run to 2028. Development deals were awarded to nine emerging players, including James Coles, Josh Hull and Ben McKinney.
