Conway Ruled Out of Auckland ODI After Training Collision With Henry

New Zealand's injury-hit build-up to the ODI series against India has taken another blow, with opener Devon Conway ruled out of Wednesday's series opener at Eden Park after a concussion sustained in training. Conway collided with paceman Matt Henry on Tuesday while both players went for a catch during a fielding drill at Eden Park, on the eve of the first of five ODIs. Both men received immediate on-field treatment and head-injury assessments, and Conway was taken to hospital, where scans confirmed the concussion. Henry's outlook is brighter: he cleared his concussion tests and remains in contention for selection, although New Zealand Cricket said his condition would continue to be monitored. Captain Mitchell Santner indicated Tim Seifert, already in the squad for the opening two matches, would step in as Conway's direct replacement in the batting order. Conway's availability for the rest of the series remains subject to further medical assessment. The setback compounds a difficult injury list for the hosts, who are already without Rachin Ravindra (shoulder) and Mark Chapman (hamstring) for the series. India arrive after winning the five-match T20I series 3-2, with the ODIs running from November 4 to 15 before two Tests. Shubman Gill captains India for the first three ODIs, with Shreyas Iyer taking over for the final two.
