Clarke's OT Winner Caps Kings' Comeback Over Islanders at UBS Arena

The Los Angeles Kings are finally building some momentum. Brandt Clarke scored at 2:43 of overtime on Thursday to complete a comeback and lift the Kings to a 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders at UBS Arena in Elmont, giving Los Angeles back-to-back wins after losing its first six games of the season.

Clarke took a drop pass from Adrian Kempe in the right circle and roofed the shot over the glove of Semyon Varlamov, capping a three-on-three frame in which the Kings controlled the puck for long stretches. "We possessed the puck for like three minutes there, tired some guys out, forced them to make a change they probably don't want to make," Clarke said. "And then we come in on an odd-man rush and it ends up with me with a good lane at the net."

Artemi Panarin scored twice for the Kings, and Darcy Kuemper was immense with 41 saves, including a near-shutout performance across the third period and overtime when coach Peter Laviolette said his team "sealed it off" defensively. The Islanders (5-3-2) extended their point streak to five games on goals from Victor Eklund and Matthew Schaefer, but the loss wasted 24 saves from Varlamov and a game effort from a team that has been one of the league's early surprises.
