Caufield and Newhook Strike Twice as Canadiens Extend Win Streak in Dallas
Cole Caufield and Alex Newhook each scored twice as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Dallas Stars 5-2 for a fourth straight win, all of them on the road.

Cole Caufield and Alex Newhook each scored twice as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Dallas Stars 5-2 at American Airlines Center on Thursday, extending their winning streak to four games, all of them away from home. Caufield opened the scoring at 7:24 of the first period, snapping home the rebound of a Phillip Danault shot that deflected off Stars defenseman Nils Lundkvist and under the right pad of a sliding Jake Oettinger. Wyatt Johnston tied it for Dallas on the power play, but the Canadiens took control in the second period, with Newhook's second goal — a backhand at the side of the net after a point shot bounced off the glass — making it 4-1. Jamie Benn pulled one back for Dallas with a wrist shot from the left circle off a Mikko Rantanen feed, but Danault sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:12 of the third period for the 5-2 final. Danault finished with a goal and an assist, Noah Dobson added two assists, and Jakub Dobes made 17 saves for Montreal, who improved to 8-3-2. For Dallas, who fell to 7-5-1 with a second straight defeat, Johnston had a goal and an assist, Rantanen collected two assists, and Oettinger stopped 16 shots. Montreal also had to cope without defenseman Mike Matheson, scratched before warmups with a lower-body injury. It mattered little: the Canadiens' road run rolls on, and their fourth straight win was arguably their most complete yet.
