Capitals Add Goalie Depth in Trade With Devils for Poirier

The Washington Capitals added goaltending depth on Sunday, acquiring 25-year-old Remi Poirier from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round draft pick, the Devils announced on Sunday morning. Poirier, a 6-foot-3 left-catching goalie from Farnham, Quebec, was drafted 185th overall by the Dallas Stars in 2020 and has spent the past four seasons with their AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars, without yet playing an NHL game. Dallas waived him in September, when New Jersey claimed him, but he has not appeared for the Devils at any level this season. Washington's move comes with Logan Thompson as the clear starter and Charlie Lindgren the other goalie on the NHL roster. The most likely landing spot for Poirier is Hershey, giving Washington another option in net as the season grinds on. It is a small deal, but it shores up a position where the Capitals' depth had grown thin.
