Canada End England's 41-Match Unbeaten Run With Dramatic 24-21 WXV Win in Toronto
Canada beat England 24-21 at BMO Field in Toronto on Saturday, ending the Red Roses' 41-game unbeaten streak with a 77th-minute winner from substitute Shoshanah Seumanutafa in the Rugby Rematch Tour opener.

England's 41-match unbeaten run is over. Canada stunned the Red Roses 24-21 at BMO Field in Toronto on Saturday, sealing a historic win with a 77th-minute try from substitute Shoshanah Seumanutafa in the opener of the Rugby Rematch Tour.
The hosts struck first through Savannah Bauder in the 15th minute, and after England hit back with quickfire tries from Maddie Feaunati and Zoe Harrison just before half-time to lead 14-5, the points kept flowing after the restart. Both teams crossed again early in the second half, but it was DaLeaka Menin's 63rd-minute try that kept the door open — and the raucous home crowd exploded when Seumanutafa powered over with three minutes left to hand England their first defeat since the 2022 World Cup final.
It was Canada's first win over England since 2016, and revenge of sorts for last year's World Cup final, which the Red Roses won. England had drawn 26-26 with Canada in Exeter last month before this rematch tour. "For a few years now we knew that we could beat them," said Canada's Justine Pelletier. "It was just a matter of time."
England head coach John Mitchell refused to dwell on the streak's end: "We're not driven by outcome. We're disappointed by the result but there were some very good things in our performance tonight." The rivals meet again next weekend in Ottawa, before England face the USA in New Jersey on October 30.
