Brewers Crush Rays 10-1 Behind Historic Fifth-Inning Burst to Take 3-0 Series Lead
Milwaukee scored eight runs in the fifth inning, all with two outs, to rout Tampa Bay 10-1 in World Series Game 3 and move one win from a first championship.

The Milwaukee Brewers are one win away from their first World Series championship after crushing the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. The win gives Milwaukee a commanding 3-0 series lead, and no team in history has ever come back from such a deficit to win the World Series. The game turned in the fifth inning, when the Brewers produced an eight-run burst, all of it with two outs. William Contreras kept the inning alive with a grounder that Tampa Bay could not turn into an out, and Brice Turang followed with a two-out, two-strike single that started a chain of run-scoring hits. Milwaukee became the first team in postseason history to have seven consecutive batters record a hit in a single game. Jackson Chourio led the 16-hit attack, going 4-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base. The 22-year-old now has eight hits, four runs and three steals in the series and is building a strong case for World Series MVP. On the mound, Robert Gasser threw six shutout innings, allowing just one hit, to earn the win. Tampa Bay, held to three hits all night, must now win four straight games starting with Tuesday's Game 4 to keep their season alive. Milwaukee, 10-1 this postseason, can celebrate a first title in franchise history with one more victory.
