Brewers Complete Stunning NLCS Sweep, Reach First World Series Since 1982 as Bauers Wins MVP

The Milwaukee Brewers are going to the World Series. For the first time since 1982, Milwaukee will play for a championship after completing a stunning four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 6-4 comeback win in Game 4 of the NLCS on Thursday night at Dodger Stadium. It looked like the Dodgers would finally push back. Los Angeles jumped on Milwaukee opener Shane Drohan for four runs in the second inning and held a 4-0 lead behind starter Tyler Glasnow. But the Brewers' relentless offense answered: Jake Bauers' two-run ground-rule double in the fourth cut the deficit in half, David Hamilton's RBI single and a Bauers bases-loaded walk tied it at 4-4 in the fifth, and Garrett Mitchell's 409-foot solo homer off Tanner Scott in the sixth gave Milwaukee its first lead. Hamilton's 402-foot insurance shot off Edwin Diaz in the ninth sealed it. Bauers was named NLCS MVP, the crowning moment of an improbable journey. The 31-year-old first baseman was traded four times, released three times and pondered retirement before Milwaukee's gamble paid off. He hit career highs of 26 homers, a .889 OPS and 86 RBIs during the Brewers' club-record 103-win season, and wore down Yoshinobu Yamamoto with an epic 12-pitch at-bat in Game 2. The sweep ends the Dodgers' bid for a third straight championship. Milwaukee opens the World Series on Friday, Oct. 23 at American Family Field against the winner of the Rays-Guardians ALCS.
