Bolduc Plays Shootout Hero Again as Canadiens Edge Sabres 4-3

Zachary Bolduc is becoming Montreal's go-to closer. The Canadiens forward scored the shootout winner for the second consecutive game on Tuesday night, lifting Montreal to a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres at the Bell Centre.

Bolduc beat Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen through the five-hole in the third round of the shootout after Cole Caufield and Alexandre Texier had already converted for Montreal. Tage Thompson scored on Buffalo's first attempt, but Jack Quinn could not beat Jacob Fowler, who stopped the final two shooters in his third straight start.

Lane Hutson and Caufield each had a goal and an assist in regulation, while Juraj Slafkovsky chipped in two assists. Fowler made 14 saves as Montreal (3-2-1) overcame a blown 3-1 lead in the third period.

Buffalo (3-3-1) got two goals from Olen Zellweger, who tied the game twice, and 35 saves from Luukkonen to salvage a point. Mattias Samuelsson and Beck Malenstyn each recorded two assists for the Sabres.

Bolduc also scored the only goal of a six-round shootout against Detroit on Saturday, and now has three goals in six games this season. The win keeps Montreal's early-season momentum rolling after a pair of shootout victories in four days.
