Blackhawks Chase Capitals Winger Miroshnichenko as Search for Goals Intensifies

The Chicago Blackhawks are actively looking for offensive reinforcements, and Washington Capitals winger Ivan Miroshnichenko has emerged as a leading name on their list. Reports from NHL insiders this week say Chicago general manager Kyle Davidson has been calling around the league in search of shoot-first, scoring wingers with size, and that the Blackhawks have spoken directly with Washington about the 22-year-old Russian. The Capitals are said to be shopping Miroshnichenko and have granted him and his camp permission to discuss a move with interested clubs, with Philadelphia, Calgary and Seattle also linked, along with Detroit and others. The interest makes sense given Chicago's start. The Blackhawks sit at 4-8-0 and rank second-last in the NHL in goals per game at just 2.17, leaving them desperate for finishers to support Connor Bedard. Miroshnichenko, the 20th overall pick in the 2022 draft, fits the age profile Chicago wants, but he has struggled to hold a regular NHL role. He has six goals and eight assists in 55 career NHL games, has one point in three appearances this season, and was a healthy scratch in eight of Washington's first 11 games. Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery has said he felt Miroshnichenko played well in his three games and that his absence from the lineup is a matter of circumstance, with a deep forward group pushing him out once players returned from injury. Washington is nevertheless reported to be seeking a legitimate return rather than giving him away, and his manageable $925,000 salary-cap hit this season and next makes him an affordable gamble for a rebuilding side. No deal has been agreed, and the talks remain at the inquiry stage.
