Matty Beniers ended a tense night in Seattle in a flash, scoring on a breakaway 55 seconds into overtime to give the Kraken a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday at Climate Pledge Arena. The winner came from a defensive play. Kraken defenceman Brandon Montour stole a pass in his own end and shovelled the puck ahead to Beniers, who tracked it down near the far blue line, skated in alone and fired a low shot off the right post and past Dustin Wolf. It was Seattle's first overtime victory of the season, lifting the Kraken to 9-5-1. Calgary had opened the scoring late in the first period, when Yegor Sharangovich tipped one in with 7:15 left in the frame. Berkly Catton tied it at 13:09 of the second, taking a pass from new linemate Mackie Samoskevich on a rush and snapping it past Wolf, who had once played for the Seattle Thunderbirds. The goal stretched Catton's point streak to seven games. Goaltender Joey Daccord held Seattle in the game, making 25 saves, including a pair of third-period breakaway stops. Wolf stopped 27 of 29 shots for Calgary, who suffered their first overtime loss of the season despite a 7-3-1 run since an 0-5-0 start. The Kraken bounced back from a 6-2 defeat in Calgary last Friday, and now host the New York Rangers on Saturday before flying to Finland for two games against Carolina.
