The Chicago Bears have made the biggest move of the trade season so far, agreeing to acquire All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans. Multiple reports on Thursday confirmed the deal, with ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network reporting the full terms: Chicago receives Simmons plus a fifth-round pick in 2028, while Tennessee collects first-round picks in 2027 and 2028 along with a fourth-round pick in 2027. The timing caught almost everyone by surprise. Simmons told reporters on Wednesday that he had heard nothing from his agent or the organisation to suggest a move was coming, and that as far as he knew he would remain in Tennessee beyond the November 10 deadline. Within a day, the 29-year-old was on his way to a contender. Chicago's motives are clear. The Bears sit at 5-2 and second in the NFC North, chasing a first Super Bowl appearance since the 2006 season, and already own a defence ranked eighth in yards allowed and ninth in points allowed. Simmons strengthens the interior immediately: a first-team All-Pro last season, he posted a career-high 11 sacks in 2025 and has 46.5 sacks across his career, with four sacks in seven games this season. He signed a three-year, $105.8 million extension before the season and remains under contract through 2030. For the 1-6 Titans, the haul of premium draft capital signals a rebuild under first-year head coach Robert Saleh.
